Tides Fellows Program Launched, Three Nonprofit Leaders Selected for Innovative Contributions to the Sector

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tides has launched a new Tides Fellows program focused on research-based approaches to increasing innovation and capacity in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.  The inaugural cohort of Tides Fellows includes three distinguished sector leaders, who will each pursue a unique set of projects to support a broad progressive agenda.

• Anthony Jewett, Co-founder of the National Center for Global Engagement, will focus on framing Tides' strategic foci in education, equality and environment. He will also explore at the role of crowd-funding in the social sector, particularly for racial justice work.
• Gara LaMarche, former President and Chief Executive Officer of The Atlantic Philanthropies, will continue his work examining the role of morality in philanthropy and will document his experience in various social movements.
• Sonal Shah, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the first White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, will focus her initial research on impact investing and developing tools for the philanthropic sector to better partner with the public and private sectors on critical social and economic issues.

The Tides Fellows program is part of a series of new strategic initiatives instituted under the leadership of Melissa L.
