Time is Running Out for Michigan Teacher of the Year Nominations

DETROIT, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Meemic Insurance Company has a long history of supporting Michigan educators through the company's expansive offering of insurance products specifically tailored to meet the needs of educators, as well as The Meemic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by the Company to provide grants to fund exceptional learning experiences. Meemic Insurance Company has also been a proud sponsor of the Michigan Department of Education Teacher of the Year program since 2007, and the Company wants to remind parents, students and other Michigan citizens to take a few moments to nominate a great teacher in their community for this distinguished award before the November 4 deadline.

The Michigan Teacher of the Year (MTOY) Award is an honor that recognizes an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled educator annually for being an outstanding and admired member of their community and school.  The award is a locally and statewide supported professional development program made possible by the Michigan Department of Education.  

Each nominated teacher will receive a letter of recognition from the State Board of Education along with an invitation to apply for the position of 2014-2015 MTOY. If selected for that honor, the MTOY will be the spokesperson for all Michigan teachers, will participate in monthly State Board of Education meetings, and will travel to three national events involving Teachers of the Year from across the country. The MTOY will remain as a full-time employee of the district.
