Titanium Industry Experts to Examine Global Demand & Supply

DENVER, Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A dozen top international titanium industry leaders have been selected by the International Titanium Association (ITA) to offer their candid insights on leading-edge consumption trends for the metal in what is anticipated to be one of the most popular panel discussions at TITANIUM EUROPE 2013.  The conference will be held the 5-7th March, 2013 in Hamburg, Germany.

Moderated by TITANIUM EUROPE's Conference Chair, Markus Holz, ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH, the Demand and Supply forum participants will analyze application, material and market segments to provide inside business knowledge in this time of economic transition.

Hunter Dalton, ATI Allvac, will present the current outlook for titanium in military vehicle applications as they will impact future demand.  Recognizing Europe's commercial aerospace industry as a major driver of global titanium consumption, James Buch, TIMET, plans to look at projected titanium volume into the jet engine market over the next 5 – 7 years, while Dawne Hickton, RTI International Metals, Inc., will inform attendees on the competitive global aerostructure market and the impact of its record backlogs on supply chains.

Overviews of the Russian, Chinese and Japanese titanium industries will be provided, respectively, by Michael Metz, VSMPO Tirus US; Wuzhuang Zou, Baoji Titanium Industry Co., Ltd; and Mike Okano, Titanium Division, Kobe Steel, Ltd.  According to Mr. Metz, Russian Federation demand is expected to double between 2010 and 2017, due to aircraft, power generation, shipbuilding and industrial activity.  Chinese sponge and mill product output reached historic levels in 2011 as stated by Mr. Zou.  His presentation will continue examine the current and future Chinese market situation.  Mr. Okano's presentation will focus on Japan's sponge and mill shipment outlook.

In view of Europe's vibrant industrial market, Giles Dussart, VALTIMET, will examine power generation, process and desalination volumes and estimate the evolution of consumption in the coming years.  Markus Holz, ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH, will summarize the Demand presentations.

The World Titanium Industry Supply panel discussion will open with Sylvain Gehler, Specialty Metals Company SA, examining titanium sponge production in Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine.  Philip Dewhurst, Roskill Information Services Ltd., will outline supply patterns of Molybdenum and Vanadium which are key metals in titanium alloys, and a new paradigm for the state of titanium mineral supply into the sponge market will be introduced by David McCoy, TZ Minerals International Pty Ltd.  Mr. McCoy will examine significantly increasing costs that may mean a shift to lower quality feedstocks or a rise in the use of scrap.  Following that observation, Dimitri Orlov, ELG Haniel GmbH will look at the strategic and economic value of scrap recycling, which can stabilize raw material prices and minimize environmental impact, particularly through vertical integration of scrap management.

As the international titanium supply chain has grown in scope and complexity over the past decade, attendance at the TITANIUM conference series has doubled.
