TODAY: Govs. Markell, O'Malley Host Press Conference on Bipartisanship, Jobs Bill
WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic Governors Association Chair Jack Markell and other Democratic governors will hold a press conference today to call for an end to obstructionism and a return to bipartisanship in Washington. They will also outline Democratic governors' priorities for jobs legislation, including measures that members of both parties support.
Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, the DGA's vice chair will join Governor Markell, as will other governors including Washington Governor Chris Gregoire and Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
"As governors, we know how to work across party lines to get things done. Washington could learn a lot from us. There are good ideas circulating in Washington to accelerate job growth, save existing jobs and make sure we come out of this recession stronger than when it started," Governor Markell said. "These solutions are being held hostage by petty bickering and a Republican party in Washington whose leaders have rejected the privilege of governing in favor of saying no to everything."
The governors will urge Congress to pass jobs legislation, outlining specific measures that should be included in a package. Governors will also be available to describe their innovative efforts to create and save jobs.
