Together At Last: Tailored Cloud Solutions with Top Tier Security Appeal
Frost & Sullivan white paper reveals how organizations can utilize the benefits of the cloud without compromising effective security and data protection
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As cloud options have evolved and multiplied, so too have the options for securing workloads and sensitive data in cloud environments. Yet, even with a variety of options, cloud security concerns remain high. Topping the list of concerns is data breaches, data loss, and account hijacking.
A recent Frost & Sullivan-conducted survey of information security professionals reveals that respondents in the healthcare and finance industry verticals have the highest concentration of elevated concern. Consequently, one would be quick to question whether a viable cloud option, suitable for the most security-conscious and data privacy-regulated vertical, even exists.
Frost & Sullivan's white paper, Cloud Attributes and Top Tier Security – Together at Last, briefly outlines the primary approaches to building customized security in the cloud and introduces an alternative method to manage an efficient and secure cloud environment.

Workloads are so diverse that businesses and public institutions require tailored cloud solutions. A "one-size-fits-all, general-purpose" cloud environment for all workloads has muted appeal relative to the customization that has been part of workloads hosted in private data centers. The flexibility, scalability, capital expense avoidance, and usage-based pricing of cloud environments have attracted significant market attention and growth, but securing cloud environments has been challenging.
While cloud providers accept a portion of security responsibilities, their security responsibilities are not all-inclusive and there are limits to their accountability (e.g., if there is a data breach). Their customers, therefore, must bridge the gaps in end-to-end security for cloud-hosted workloads. Lacking in-house resources, expertise, and intimate knowledge of the cloud provider's operations, cloud enthusiasts face three potential realities: (1) accepting an unquantifiable level of risk in cloud adoption, (2) increasing their cloud-related expenses by employing a cloud management provider to mitigate and control cloud security risk, or (3) avoid placing workloads containing sensitive data in the cloud and thereby forgoing the benefits of using the cloud.
"Conditioning cloud environments to meet the requirements of companies subject to data privacy and protection requirements is no easy feat," said Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan Vice President of Research Michael Suby. "General cloud environments can be adapted to meet stringent security requirements, but not without trade-offs which ultimately amount to higher costs."
In this analysis, Frost & Sullivan discusses how FireHost, a managed secure cloud provider, offers a cloud solution that is ideal for the most security-conscious and data privacy-regulated industry verticals, such as healthcare and finance.
"FireHost offers a compelling alternative by injecting higher tiers of security management as standard elements of its cloud offerings," said Suby. "The company's recent announcement of its complimentary cyber warranty, demonstrates its confidence in effectively defending against threats intent on stealing or compromising sensitive data."
