Tower Companies #24 on EPA's 100% Green Power Purchasers List

ROCKVILLE, Md., April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Tower Companies announced today that as a member of EPA's Green Power Leadership Club, the company ranks 24 among The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s list of 100% Green Power Users, purchasing 46,000,000 kWh of 100% of renewable electricity Recs from wind power sources.  Tower's purchase effectively reduces the environmental impacts of electricity use by removing 31,720 metric tons of carbon dioxide or annual greenhouse gas emissions, which is the equivalent of removing 6,220 passenger cars off the road each year, or recycling 11,052 tons of waste, instead of sending it to a landfill.

Since 2003 the company has achieved national recognition for its leadership in green power purchasing and has the distinction of being the first and only real estate company to be listed on EPA's 2003 Top 50 Green Power Partnership list.  In 2003 and again in 2006, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy awarded Tower Companies with the Green Power Purchaser Awards. 

On EPA's most recent list, Tower ranks third among real estate companies, after Washington Real Estate Investment Trust of Rockville, MD, and Empire State Building of New York, NY, which rank #8 and #22, respectively, with purchases of 146,090,000 kWh and 54,540,280 kWh of 100% wind power.  Also of note on the list is #23, American University, where Tower partner Gary Abramson is Chair Emeritus.
