Solent Freight Services, Tag-N-Trac and Otonomi bring together real-time condition monitoring and parametric insurance, tailor-made for perishable cargo. Covered delays and temperature excursions are designed to settle quickly once a trigger is verified, without after-the-fact evidence gathering.
NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Solent Freight Services, Tag-N-Trac and Otonomi today launched TRACinSURED, a cargo protection program in which parametric insurance, designed and administered by Otonomi Insurance Services LLC, a licensed managing general agent, and underwritten by A-rated securities, pays out when a shipment's own sensor record shows that a covered trigger was met. It combines Tag-N-Trac's AI-powered, infrastructure-independent real-time ground truth data, Otonomi's delay and visibility data, and Solent's air freight network, so covered events can be verified and settled quickly and efficiently. The aim is a claim that does not need to be argued, because it has already been observed.
The Case for Changing the Model
Cargo claims are still settled the way they were before sensors existed. A shipment arrives late, warm or damaged, evidence is assembled after the fact, a loss adjuster is assigned and the parties negotiate. Settlement can take 45 days or more, even on a straightforward file, because shipper, forwarder and carrier do not share one record of what happened. Many shippers simply stop filing: losses below the deductible are absorbed and disputed claims abandoned. Often, shippers already pay for visibility hardware that recorded exactly what went wrong, but cannot use it to get paid. TRACinSURED connects those two facts.
The Partnership
- Solent Freight Services provides the freight systems and the network. A 100 percent neutral wholesale freight forwarder headquartered at JFK International Airport, Solent operates as a virtual airline across 137+ airports and sells freight services to more than 7,600 freight forwarding clients across the Americas and Europe. It makes the TRACinSURED shipment record available on live commercial lanes and express courier flows. Solent does not sell or offer insurance.
- Tag-N-Trac provides the AI, platform, IoT devices and technology. Its industry-first smart labels and trackers monitor location, temperature, shock, humidity, light and tamper events at item, carton and pallet level, and its AI flags exceptions in transit through the delivery. The output is a continuous, tamper-evident condition record that serves as the data source for policy triggers.
- Otonomi provides the insurance capability. Otonomi Insurance Services LLC, a licensed managing general agent, designs and administers the coverage under delegated authority from A-rated securities, which underwrite it. Otonomi's parametric cargo products pay a pre-agreed amount on defined, measurable events, using smart contracts and decentralized data oracles to verify triggers. They have closed claims in a matter of days, rather than the months typical of traditional cargo claims, and cut claims administration cost by up to 90 percent.
How TRACinSURED Works
- Tag at origin. A Tag-N-Trac smart label records location, temperature, humidity, shock, light and tamper events continuously, at item, carton or pallet level.
- Move on a live lane. Solent carries the shipment across its wholesale air cargo and express courier network, with condition data streaming into the TRACinSURED record at every handoff.
- Bind a defined trigger. Otonomi Insurance Services LLC, on behalf of A-rated securities, issues a parametric policy against that record. Covered events, such as a defined MAWB delay or a temperature or humidity excursion (non-parametric coverage, proof of loss required), and the fixed payout for each, are agreed in advance.
- Settle fast. When the record verifies that a covered trigger was met, the pre-agreed amount is typically paid in a matter of days, with little or no document exchange. The payout is fixed in advance and may be less than the actual loss. If the defined condition is not met, the policy does not pay.
What the Partners Say
"Solent has spent more than 30 years handling fresh-cut flowers, fruits, pharmaceuticals and other highly perishable cargo where temperature, timing and visibility can determine whether a shipment succeeds or fails," said Simon Milne, CEO of Solent. "For years, we — along with the transportation industry worldwide — have been looking for a way to bring shipment tracking, temperature monitoring and delay protection together in one simple, powerful package.
"TRACinSURED brings those capabilities together in a way that has enormous potential across the transportation industry, air cargo, ocean freight, courier and express and beyond. When real-time shipment data can be connected directly to protection and rapid resolution, the possibilities are virtually limitless."
"We have been helping our customers for years now, answering their questions about when and where their shipment went wrong. TRACinSURED is the first time that telling them is worth money to them," said Venu Gutlapalli, Co-Founder and Chief Digital Officer of Tag-N-Trac. "A temperature alert is not a claims file. We maintain the chain of custody for that data, because if an underwriter cannot rely on the record, the rest of the product does not matter."
"Parametric insurance lives or dies on whether the triggering data is trustworthy enough that no one needs to dispute it," said Yann Barbarroux, CEO of Otonomi. "Transit delay was a trigger we could already write. Tag-N-Trac's sensor feed, with Solent's operational context, lets us price a lane rather than a declared value. That is what makes our settlement process so fast."
