Tri-C Introduces New Westshore Campus With Grand-Opening Event in Westlake
WESTLAKE, Ohio, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) officially introduced its new Westshore Campus with a grand-opening event Thursday evening, June 16. In addition, the Campus held a community wellness fair Saturday, June 18. The Westshore Campus, located at 31001 Clemens Road in Westlake, is the College's fourth campus and the first new higher education campus in Northeast Ohio in many years. Tri-C staff, faculty and students joined a number of dignitaries and city leaders for the celebration.

"The Westshore Campus allows the College to continue its delivery of high-quality education and career training in unique areas, particularly in health-related fields."
Dr. J. Michael Thomson is president of the new campus. "This is a state-of-the-art facility that will offer students unparalleled instructional opportunities. We look forward to continued growth of the campus along with the western suburbs of Cuyahoga County," Dr. Thomson said.
The 65,000 square-foot, $24.3 million facility is the first building on the 33-acre Westshore site. As a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) campus, Westshore is focused on these four areas of education and training. The campus offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in nursing, medical assisting and emergency medical technology. Additionally, certificate programs are available in emergency medical technology, medical assisting, polysomnography and State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA). Students can also get an Associate of Science degree and transfer to a four-year institution.
Westshore also offers a complete enrollment center along with a technology learning center and library. Additionally, the campus provides a combination of 16 classrooms and conference rooms, five life science labs with strong lab support areas, and four health career labs including a patient stimulator lab.
Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is Ohio's first community college and now the state's largest, serving 55,000 students each year. More than 900,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors. The College offers two-year associate degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes over 1,600 credit courses in more than 130 career, certificate and university transfer programs. Courses are offered at four campus locations, two Corporate College® facilities, many off-campus sites, and via television and the Internet.
