SAN DIEGO, June 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Trust & Will, the leader in online estate planning in the US, celebrates its 100,000 member milestone since its inception in 2017. The success curtails the emerging trend of moving estate planning online, which simplifies the complex process and makes it more accessible and affordable. The new trend saw steady growth until the novel coronavirus pandemic made online estate planning a more urgent topic, doubling the volume of individuals seeking practical planning solutions without leaving the house.
"From the start, we recognized the need for a more accessible solution when it came to estate planning," said Founder and CEO of Trust & Will, Cody Barbo. "What we could never predict was an unprecedented event such as COVID-19 that would bring end-of-life estate planning - a topic most avoid - front of mind. I am very proud of our team and the extra hours they dedicated during these tough times to support the increased needs that led to this incredible milestone."
Barbo founded Trust & Will, his third startup venture, in 2017 when he was preparing to get married and discovered a lack of products and tools for easy and convenient estate planning. After months of research, Barbo and his co-founders began building a team and pitching investors on the concept. In December 2019, the company celebrated its $6 million Series-A round of funding.
Trust & Will's success has provided opportunities to give back to the community. In March, the company announced a new effort to support frontline workers facing the COVID-19 pandemic. Trust & Will provided online estate planning solutions to healthcare professionals free of charge to help provide a bit of peace of mind for individuals and their families working on the front lines. In total, the company provided 10,000—or $1.29M in—free, online wills.
The frontline workers initiative was just one step in the Trust & Will mission of making estate planning more accessible to everyone. Healthcare professionals in the U.S. are still eligible to apply and receive a free Will-based estate plan and should start by submitting verification of credentials at https://trustandwill.com/frontline-heroes/.
