Tumblr Launches "Post It Forward" Campaign to Help Destigmatize Mental and Emotional Health Issues & Encourage Overall Wellness on Its Platform and Beyond

NEW YORK, May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tumblr is proud to launch "Post It Forward," a new campaign that promotes positivity and support in online communities. Issues related to mental and emotional health are prevalent in online platforms for self expression, but often stigmatized in users' offline lives. PostItForward.Tumblr.com and the tag #PostItForward will serve as hubs for community building, support, and healing for those in need. Through these platforms, users can speak to their personal experiences, offer positive messages of encouragement, and raise awareness of organizations that have helped them throughout their journeys.

"Post It Forward" will weave together a wide range of issues and campaigns related to young people's mental and emotional health - like bullying, self-harm, depression, and sexual assault - and shine a light on the ways online connection and community can provide support. Tumblr has continued to address these issues on its own platform whether through its community guidelines, changing the way users can flag harmful content, or steering users towards organizations to encourage seeking professional support. The campaign creates a more positive space for users to interact with each other and find the support they need.

To kick off the campaign, Vice President Joe Biden, Brittany Snow, Pete Wentz, Jordin Sparks, Elizabeth Banks, Wendy Williams, First Lady of NYC Chirlane McCray and more have joined "Post It Forward" by creating videos to help inspire the community and jump-start the conversation.  Tumblr will showcase some benefits to the anonymity and sense of community the internet can provide. By demonstrating just how prevalent these issues are, we hope to turn the community into a positive support tool for those that may not have one in their daily lives.

Users will also be encouraged to take a GIF selfie -- which will appear on the blog and tag -- using a new, special version of Tumblr's native desktop camera tool  to show support for a happy and united Tumblr community. In addition, Tumblr tapped a few of its top Creatrs -- Laurene Boglio, Brian Butler, Thoka Maer, Jonathan Reyes, and Mr. Phil -- to make the "Post It Forward" concept come to life with vivid art on the blog and limited-edition merchandise to be sold on the Tumblr merch store (www.tumblr.com/merch) with proceeds going to organizations, such as Love is Louder and The M.A.D.
