Tupelo Furniture Market List of Large Retailers Grows as February Event Approaches

TUPELO, Miss., Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ask anyone in the trade show business and they'll tell you – you want as many buyers at your market event as you can get, but getting the large buyers is essential.  The furniture industry is no different, and it seems the Tupelo Furniture Market, scheduled for February 6-9, 2014, has the major retail buyers booking their flights to Mississippi which is widely considered the upholstery furniture capital of the world!

"Collectively, Mississippi manufacturers ship more upholstered furniture than any other state in the country.  And, the state ranks third in the U.S. in total shipments of all household furniture," said Adam Cleveland, the COO of the Tupelo Furniture Market.  "Major retailers from the furniture industry have come to Tupelo for more than 25 years and we are pleased to see they are returning again this February."

According to Cleveland, when the housing market was down, furniture sales suffered and consequently traffic at all furniture trade events were down.  However, the tide seems to be turning in Tupelo, and the list of national and regional buyers pre-registered for the upcoming market is notable.

"Approximately 12,000 retailers have already registered for our upcoming event which is up considerably from this time last year," said Kevin J. Seddon, president of the Tupelo Furniture Market.  "If the trend continues, we will reach 15,000 to 20,000 pre-registrations for this event.  Although not all will attend, we are pleased with these numbers." 

Some of the top 100 furniture retailers that have already registered for the Tupelo event include Gardner White Furniture Co., Badcock, Art Van, Gallery Furniture, FFO Home, Hank's Fine Furniture, Haynes and Rooms-To-Go.  One-third of the Top 100 has registered for this February's market and more are expected to do so in the coming weeks.  More than 500 buyers from some of the larger retailers in the U.S. are registered to attend and 2,000 buyers representing mid-size retailers have also registered.

Seddon went on to explain that every buyer from every retail operation is important to the success of the event.  "Many of the companies that show furniture and furniture accessories at our market depend on the thousands of smaller retailers that attend our market," he stated.  "They are the businesses that ultimately drive the industry and we are glad that so many of them have registered for our early February event."
