Turner Awarded Higher Education Contracts Totaling $93 Million

NEW YORK, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, the nation's largest builder of education and sports facilities, has been awarded a $69.9 million contract by Stanford University to provide construction services for Bing Concert Hall in Stanford, Calif.  Construction of the Concert Hall is expected to be completed in summer 2012, with the first public performances taking place in January 2013.

In addition, Turner has broken ground on a $23 million basketball development center for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. The basketball development center is being constructed adjacent to the Crisler Arena on the Ann Arbor campus.  Construction is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011. The scope of work includes a 57,000 sq. ft. facility featuring two basketball practice courts, locker rooms for players and coaches, a strength and conditioning space and a hydrotherapy and medical facility.

The Bing Concert Hall will be an acoustically exceptional hall that will be well suited for a variety of campus and visiting artists ranging from small chamber ensembles to full orchestra, as well as having state-of-the art technical capacities to present multi-media and electronic music performances.  The Concert Hall will present artists in an environment suited to showcase their art and will contribute to Stanford's reputation for being a premier host of all types of musical performances.

The performance facility will include a vineyard style hall with seating for approximately 844 patrons.  Well designed and functional 'back of house' spaces such as green rooms, dressing rooms, rehearsal space, and storage and service spaces will also be provided in the facility.  The Concert Hall will have public areas, which include a lobby, space for master classes, receptions, pre-show community events and offices for house management staff.

Turner has constructed other important facilities for Stanford University that include Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Phase 1, Stauffer Laboratories, a biological studies building and the Coherent Light Source Project for the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) in conjunction with the Department of Energy.  Turner's current work for Stanford includes the Knight Management Center Stanford Graduate School of Business, a 12.5 acre campus featuring eight buildings that total 360,000 sq. ft. scheduled for completion in 2011.
