Turnitin Now Offers AI Writing Detection for Dutch, German, and Turkish Language Submissions

Broadening global support for educators committed to academic integrity and original thinking

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Turnitin today announced the expansion of its AI writing detection capabilities to support Dutch, German, and Turkish language submissions. The latest addition reflects Turnitin's ongoing commitment to equip educators worldwide with the tools they need to support original thinking and promote academic integrity across an even wider range of learning environments.

As AI adoption among students continues to increase, educators require solutions built on transparency, rather than surveillance. Turnitin's solutions go beyond verifying authorship. They support the broader learning journey and help equip students with the skills demanded by today's employers.

"Every language we add opens the door for more educators to guide the responsible use of AI in their classrooms and lecture halls," said James Thorley, Vice President of EMEA and APAC at Turnitin. "By extending detection capabilities to German, Turkish, and Dutch, we are giving more educators insight into where AI may have been used, so they can have meaningful, informed conversations with their students. We know there is no substitute for knowing a student's writing style and understanding institutional AI policies, but these insights help educators focus on what matters most: supporting original thought and critical thinking, rather than allowing AI to replace it."

The expansion builds on Turnitin's growing multilingual AI detection capabilities, which already include English, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic. It underscores the company's continued commitment to serving diverse educational communities, and its belief that academic integrity should be supported in every classroom or lecture hall, regardless of language.

AI writing detection for Dutch, German, and Turkish is now available through Turnitin Originality and as an add-on for iThenticate 2.0 customers. Like the English, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic versions, the feature provides educators with an overall percentage of likely AI-generated content, alongside:

• Intuitive, actionable reporting designed with educators in mind, making it easy to review submission insights and start constructive conversations with students about academic integrity,
• Seamless integration into existing educator workflows and learning management systems, fitting directly into daily grading routines without disruption, and
• Detection capabilities for the leading large language models, giving educators data points to assess student work in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
