tw telecom Awarded Internet and Wide Area Network (WAN) Services Contracts from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- tw telecom inc., (NASDAQ: TWTC) a leading provider of managed services, including Business Ethernet, converged and IP VPN solutions for enterprises, large organizations and government entities throughout the U.S., today announced it has been awarded two contracts from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for secure Internet connectivity and wavelength services in support of the Trusted Internet Connectivity (TIC) strategic initiative that could be worth approximately $11.67 million over five years.

Under the terms of the competitive awards, tw telecom will deliver Ethernet Internet Services and 10 Gig wavelength services for mission critical medical and health-related data connectivity to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Indian Health Services (IHS) in Washington D.C., Atlanta and Albuquerque.

tw telecom was awarded a contract to deliver Ethernet Internet Services (EIS) for the Washington, D.C. and Atlanta Trusted Internet Connectivity (TIC) sites.  This award is evaluated at $7.49 million over the next five years.  tw telecom is one of the three largest Business Ethernet providers in the U.S.

tw telecom was also awarded a contract for Wide Area Network (WAN) Cloud A network connectivity for 10 Gig wavelength services to the Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Albuquerque TIC sites.  This award is evaluated at $4.18 million over the next five years.

Both contract awards enable tw telecom to deliver private, secure and scalable network connectivity transmitting mission-critical medical data and communications traffic.  The tw telecom services easily scale to meet anticipated growth requirements for Health and Human Services and to keep its Operating Divisions (OPDIV) medical data safe and secure.
