Twilio Announces Beta Support for WebRTC in Its Client Product

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Twilio (http://www.twilio.com), the cloud communications company, announced beta support for WebRTC at their second annual TwilioCon conference. WebRTC is an open source project that enables web browsers with Real-Time Communications (RTC) capabilities via simple Javascript APIs. Twilio Client, which allows developers and enterprises to easily integrate IP communications into their Web and mobile applications. The introduction of WebRTC in Client promises to offer an improved user experience and audio quality.

Developers don't need to make any changes to their app to take advantage of new technology. When Twilio Client apps are used with a WebRTC compatible browser, such as future versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, Twilio Client will automatically take advantage of the improved audio performance of the WebRTC technology. If the browser doesn't support it, Twilio Client will still work and fall back to existing browser technologies.

Since Client's launch in 2011, incredible use cases have emerged by. Wix, the wildly popular company whose drag and drop tools have set a new standard in DIY website creation, built their own internal call center to deal with their rapidly scaling customer service needs.
