Two Annual October Events at the Craneway Pavilion Celebrate Ford Point's History and Offer Great Entertainment for the Whole Family

RICHMOND MARINA DISTRICT, Calif., Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, October 12th (7‐10PM), the Richmond Chamber of Commerce hosts the Rosie the Riveter 1940s USO Dance "A TRIBUTE TO LENA HORN", starring Robin Gregory as Horne, the Singing Blue Stars, Junius Courtney Big Band and Swing or Nothing! Dance Group.  WWII dress, live music of the 40s, and swing dancing will transport party goers back to the era of resilience and unmatched national pride.  There will be free coffee and donuts, a cash bar and concessions.

The USO Dance is a high-spirited kickoff for Saturday, October 13th's Home Front Festival by the Bay (11AM‐5PM), the 6th annual celebration of Richmond's special role in the history of modern America.  This year's theme is "RICH IN HISTORY – DEFINED BY DIVERSITY".  The FREE Festival features tours of the new Rosie the Riveter Visitor Education Center.  At 1:30PM there will be a reunion photo for American WWII workers in front of the Center.  Throughout the day historic 1940s buses will take people to and from the SS Potomac.  There will be a Kiwanis Classic Car Show, an hourly San Francisco DUCK Bay tour, and live entertainment by the Elite Jazz Band, The Conjunto Romero Band, The Originalz, The Big Fish Band and others.  The YMCA 5K & 10K Home Front Run will begin at 9AM.

Owned and operated by Orton Development since 2004, the Craneway Pavilion is part of the historic 525,000‐square‐foot Ford Assembly Building and is adjacent to the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park and the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center.  The original Craneway Pavilion building was designed by legendary industrial architect Albert Kahn and first opened as the Ford Motor's Model 'A' production plant. During WWII the plant became a hub for the home front effort when it was retooled to produce tanks and jeeps.  It was here that the much revered Rosie the Riveters labored. 

With panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline from a 25‐acre waterfront setting, Craneway Pavilion is located at 1414 Harbour Way South in the Marina district of Richmond and can be accessed from the 580 freeway. Its wharf is accessible by private ferry from most waterfront locations in the Bay Area, BART and Amtrak (+ shuttles from nearby stations), car (the venue has 1,200 dedicated parking spaces), and by foot or bicycle from the shoreline Bay Trail.
