Both events are free, with no appointment necessary and no obligation, giving families the chance to compare two distinct settings in a single weekend. Families who attend either weekend will have access to 0% interest financing for 48 months, along with flexible payment options, making it easier to pre-plan their memorialization or that of a loved one.
Both weekends coincide with the Special Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, marking the 800th anniversary of his death.
"During this Year of Saint Francis, may the decisions we make today reflect our hope in the Resurrection and become a lasting gift of peace to those we love," said Joseph Heckel, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark. "Pre-planning helps ensure that our wishes are known while relieving loved ones of difficult decisions during a time of loss."
Maryrest, located at 770 Darlington Avenue in Mahwah, pairs traditional cemetery grounds with a full Chapel Mausoleum, magnificent stained-glass windows, marble crypts, and glass and marble cremation niches. The property also features New Jersey's first Catholic Natural/Green Burial Section, marked by wildflowers and boulder memorialization rather than headstones, as well as new gazebo family estates for families seeking committal space amid the grounds.
Christ the King, located at 980 Huron Road in Franklin Lakes, offers a rural, park-like setting anchored by its towering bronze statue of Christ the King, with traditional plots featuring minimalist flat markers, Amish-style gazebo committal sections, and outdoor columbariums. The cemetery recently added a new Cremorial Section steps from the signature statue, where winding paths, blooming trees, and lush greenery frame flat cremation markers for families who prefer a simpler, more understated resting place.
At both locations, Memorial Planning Advisors will be on-site to walk families through burial, cremation, and memorialization options. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are recommended given strong turnout.
