Two Million Postcards: Gun Violence Survivors Declare 'Not One More' In Solidarity With Father Of UCSB Shooting Victim

NEW YORK, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Survivors of gun violence and the family members of its victims from Newtown, Aurora, Virginia Tech and everyday gun violence have answered the call of Richard Martinez, whose son Christopher was killed in the Santa Barbara tragedy, to demand that "Not one more" should die from gun violence.  Survivors have shared photos online that include the "Not One More" postcard that will be sent to political leaders and photos of loved ones killed by gun violence.  The photos can be seen here and people can also find instructions for submitting their own photo here.

Last week, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America launched a postcard campaign that makes it easy for Americans to automatically send postcards to their elected officials – available here. Since the campaign launched last Tuesday, more than 500,000 Americans have signed up to send more than two million postcards.  For every American who signs up, Everytown will deliver postcards to each individual's U.S. House representative, two U.S. Senators and governor. 

The postcard campaign is in response to an impassioned plea at a memorial service at UC Santa Barbara – which has mobilized Americans across the country – where Martinez said, "I'm going to ask every person I can find to send a postcard to every politician they can think of with three words on it: 'Not one more.'  People are looking for something to do. I'm asking people to stand up for something. Enough is enough."

"Just like Mr. Martinez said, you never think gun violence will affect your family – until it does," said Everytown for Gun Safety Outreach Associate Erica Lafferty, whose mother Dawn Hochsprung was the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School and was murdered while trying to protect her students.  "We are all part of a sad – but quickly growing – club of Americans whose lives have been forever changed by our country's gun violence epidemic – but we are standing with Mr. Martinez and doing everything we can to keep our membership from growing."
