VALENCIA, Calif., Jan. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Shield HealthCare, a leading provider of medical supplies for care at home, is pleased to announce the Texas winners of its 14th annual "What Makes Caregiving Rewarding" story contest, recognizing the dedicated role of professional and family caregivers. Through this contest, Shield HealthCare provides its caregiving audience a forum to share their stories, inspiring and encouraging others.
Congratulations to Patricia G. in San Antonio and Darla V. in Houston on their winning stories selected by Kelli Kelly, founder of Hand to Hold, a Texas organization that supports preemies and special needs children.
Selected as a grand prize winner, Patricia's story is a tribute to her daughter Katie. She wrote, "I understand what matters most: that even if Katie never develops to the level of many other children, that she develop to the greatest possible level that she can. The reward is in knowing that I have been the best parent and caregiver that I can be and that Katie has the opportunity to enjoy a full life."
Runner-up, Darla V. shared her rewarding journey caring for her son, Danny. She wrote, "He is my reward for what I do. When he smiles, when he rebels, when he struggles, when he overcomes, I receive the blessing of watching it all happen, knowing that each day with Danny, whether blue sky or dreary, is a miracle."
All contest winners received an American Express Gift Card and a 1-year subscription to Today's Caregiver Magazine. Shield HealthCare's "What Makes Caregiving Rewarding" story contest is designed to create awareness and recognition of the role of caregivers. All eight winning caregiver stories are posted on Shield HealthCare's website at www.shieldhealthcare.com/caring.
Shield HealthCare also announces its 4th annual Readers' Choice Contest, allowing additional caregiver stories from "What Makes Caregiving Rewarding?" contest to receive acclaim and recognition from the voting public. The top 3 winners selected by public vote will be recognized on Shield HealthCare's website in early February 2015. Vote for your favorite caregiving story at: www.shieldhealthcare.com/readerschoice.
