AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TX Construction Association Safety Group, a group purchase program written through Texas Mutual Insurance Company and offered as a benefit to members of TX Construction Association, Inc., has awarded Houston-based D.E. Harvey Builders with the first ever General Contractor Job Site Safety Award for its dedication to keeping job sites safe.
The safety group asked 2,400 subcontractors to name the general contractor that strives to keep construction sites safe and clean to avoid incidents. D.E. Harvey was presented with the award at the TCA Board of Directors meeting on Oct. 28.
"I'm honored that we received this award from our contractors, but I'm not surprised because our safety program is second to none," Jason Beers, director of D.E. Harvey Builders, said. "We want every individual worker to go home safe to their families so they can come back the next day and provide for them."
This is the first General Contractor Job Site Safety Award ever presented by TX Construction Association Safety Group. Gina O'Hara, a vice president at Anco Insurance and master agent of the TCA Safety Group, said she wants to see it become a coveted annual award.
"We want to bring focus to messy worksites because subcontractors were having lots of trips, slips and falls stemming from poor cleanup of job sites," she said. "It falls back on the general contractors to monitor their own work sites and the subcontractors who voted to honor Harvey with this award felt that they do it better than most."
Safety groups allow employers in similar industries to purchase their insurance as a group, thereby lowering their premiums. Members also receive customized safety information for their industry and are eligible for group dividends if their group maintains a strong safety record. The TCA Safety Group is the largest organization of its kind for subcontractors in Texas.
