UL Environment Awards First Closed Loop Validation to Dell

MARIETTA, Ga., May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UL Environment, a division of UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Supply Chain & Sustainability, today announces that it has issued its first ever closed loop Environmental Claim Validation to Dell.  Dell's OptiPlex 3030 All-In-One computers are verified to contain a minimum of 10% post-consumer closed loop recycled content. This claim goes beyond a recycled content claim because it involves a closed loop, meaning that plastic from old electronics is being reused to create parts for new computers. By reusing plastics already in circulation, Dell is cutting down on e-waste, saving resources and reducing carbon emissions by 11 percent compared with virgin plastics.

UL Environment's new Environmental Claim Validation Procedure, ECVP 2809, outlines the framework and process by which any recycled content and closed loop recycled content claims are investigated and validated before a validation badge is issued. Achieving an ECV lends third-party credibility to manufacturers' claims, while providing peace of mind to purchasers who are working to comply with green purchasing requirements.
