Undecided Voters Bring Foreign Policy Back to the Forefront

The digital premiere event for S.O.S, co-presented and moderated by Georgetown University's Hoyawood organization, will encourage voters to engage on foreign policy.  The film examines threats to national security and features Richard Clarke, the leading counter-terrorism official under four administrations.  Despite repeatedly warning government officials against Al Qaeda leading up to the 9/11 terrorist attack, Clarke was perhaps the only member of the administration to come before the 9/11 Commission with an emotional apology to victims' families for the country's lack of preparedness, and S.O.S argues that we are still unprepared. S.O.S/State of Security premieres on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7pm in Washington, D.C. and will be followed by a panel discussion with the film's Academy award-nominated director Michele Ohayon, as well as 30-year armed forces veteran Major General Paul Eaton, who appears in the film.  They will be joined by Matthew Kroenig, assistant professor of Government at Georgetown and a 2011 Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow in the Department of Defense, who worked on the development and implementation of U.S. defense policy and strategy in the Middle East.

Management of foreign policy and the government's knowledge of potential of terrorist attacks led to one of the most heated exchanges in Tuesday's debate, as the candidates sparred over the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which led to the death of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.  S.O.S provides historical context and uses Clarke's warnings and memorable apology before the 9/11 commission in 2009 to call for greater government transparency.
