Unicity Make Life Better Foundation Empowers Syrian Refugees Through "Gather for Goats" Program

Foundation profoundly impacts the lives of Syrian refugees in Jordan

PROVO, Utah, Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Unicity Make Life Better Foundation has donated 332 pregnant goats to Syrian families this year, benefiting more than 754 individuals. This initiative is a testament to the Foundation's commitment to transforming lives and fostering resilience among Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Over the past decade, the Syrian civil war has forced countless families to flee their homes for safety and a fresh start. Many of these families have sought refuge in Jordan's rural northern regions, where resources and employment opportunities are limited. They live in communities of makeshift tents in the desert, often out of reach for traditional aid efforts.

In Syria, goat herding is a revered and skillful profession deeply ingrained in the culture. Through longtime partner Lifting Hands International and the "Gather for Goats" initiative, the Unicity Make Life Better Foundation provided these families with resilient, desert-ready Shami goats. The goats ensure a sustainable food source through milk, cheese, and yogurt, and offer an avenue for economic independence. Many recipients can feed their families and sell the surplus goat products.

In 2021, Sarah Smart, managing director of the Foundation, visited Jordan, where many Syrian families sought refuge. "I met the families, drank the milk, and was able to see how many have grown their herds and begun to change their lives," Smart said.

By providing these goats, the Unicity Make Life Better Foundation continues its mission to offer opportunities and a brighter future to those in need.
