BROOKLYN, N.Y., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- United Wind, a leading provider of distributed wind energy solutions, announced today that it had hired Joseph Yurcisin as its Vice President, Business Development. Yurcisin will lead all sales and marketing efforts for the Brooklyn-based wind developer that offers a first-of-its-kind lease program for end users to generate on-site power from distributed-scale "behind-the-meter" wind turbines.
"We are thrilled to have Joseph join our fast-growing team," said Russell Tencer, CEO of United Wind. "Joseph's experience building a world-class sales organization in the distributed renewable energy sector will be a major factor in United Wind's sales team expansion and execution as we focus on increasing our footprint and scale."
A veteran of the distributed solar industry, Yurcisin previously served as Senior Vice President of Sales for NRG Home Solar, where he led a team of 600 and helped establish NRG as the 4th largest residential solar provider in the country. His team served twelve states where they offered leases, PPA's and loans to their solar customers. Joseph led all departments in the sales process including lead generation, direct, inside and community solar sales, sales processing and customer experience.
"I am delighted to join United Wind's talented team and play a role in helping the company achieve the tremendous potential I believe it is capable of reaching," said Yurcisin. "The distributed wind industry is poised for significant growth and I have no doubt that United Wind's groundbreaking lease program will help the company establish itself as a pioneer in that growth. I am excited to be a part of the team and see that growth first hand."
In addition, United Wind has announced the hire of Philip Futernik as Chief Technology Officer. Philip, who has an array of experience developing robust software in both the commercial and defense industries, most recently held the role of Senior Software Engineer with Harris Corporation. He will be focused on streamlining internal processes and improving external customer experiences for the company.
"I couldn't be more excited to join a company with the extraordinary vision of United Wind," said Futernik. "The potential for such a positive environmental impact is something that very much motivates me and I strongly believe that developing the technology which fuels the company will be a big factor in making that happen."
United Wind's unique, industry-leading WindLease program empowers customers throughout the U.S. and beyond to save on electricity costs by harvesting their on-site wind energy through a fixed rate, 20-year maintenance-free lease without any initial out-of-pocket costs required from the customer. The first of its kind model has attracted over $225M in financing deals from major investors including Statoil, Forum Equity Partners, US Bank and the NY Green Bank.
According to the Distributed Wind Energy Association (DWEA), by 2030 there will be 23.7 million properties suitable for distributed wind, representing a potential for 1,100 GW of generating capacity in the U.S. DWEA also estimates that other related market segments, such as community wind, wind gardens, and virtual metered systems, could boost the potential for non-windfarm wind-generated energy to 1,400 GW. The energy production potential for the 1,100 GW in 2030 is estimated at 2,900 TWh which is 70% of the net electricity generation in the U.S. in 2014.
