"The foundation of Community CCRx is to provide members with a supportive relationship we call A Healthy Collaboration(SM). Pharmacists help our members understand their drug regimens, counsel patients to prevent dangerous drug interactions and work to save members money by helping them switch to lower-cost, equally effective medications when appropriate," said John Wardle, President of Universal American's Medicare Prescription Drug Plan business. "Community CCRx recognizes how important pharmacists are. We support the care they provide while they work with doctors and hospitals to help manage medications properly and safely."
Peterson Drug and Gifts was selected for its work inside and outside the pharmacy. It participates in both of the Community CCRx Pharmacy Medication Management Incentive Programs and reached the highest possible tiers for Generic Dispensing rate and Maintenance Supply rate. In addition, it completed 90 percent of its available Medication Therapy Management (MTM) cases and is active in the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the Chamber of Commerce.
"Peterson Drug and Gifts does more than just fill prescriptions. They embody the ideals of A Healthy Collaboration and have embraced a model of care that leverages the strength of the patient-pharmacist relationship to improve members' health and help reduce their healthcare costs," said Wardle.
Peterson will be recognized at NCPA's Multiple Locations Pharmacy Conference in Palm Springs, Calif., Feb. 16 -20, 2011.
"We can call Vern in the middle of the night. He hops out of bed, comes to the store, opens it up and gets us the pills and brings them to us," said Deb Kremmin, Director of Nursing at Good Samaritan Society-Mountain Lake.
"Peterson Drug and Gifts is honored to be named this year's Community CCRx Pharmacy of the Year," said Peterson. "We understand the important role we play in our patient's healthcare-making decisions, and we want them to know they don't have to make those choices alone. We're committed to providing our patients with information and resources to help them make the best healthcare decisions possible."
