University of Connecticut (UConn) Selects Ericom AccessNow™ for Browser-based Access to VMware View™

CLOSTER, N.J., July 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, today announced that the University of Connecticut, UConn, is piloting Ericom AccessNow for VMware View after a successful test of the product.

Ericom's patent-pending AccessNow for VMware View is the first VDI solution to work natively with Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer (with Chrome Frame plug-in), Firefox, Opera, other browsers with HTML5 and WebSocket support, and Chromebooks. The solution does not require Java, Flash, Silverlight or any other underlying technology.

Tony Molloy, IT Manager for the University of Connecticut Libraries added: "Our objective is to provide students with access to software and library resources from any location. We tested Ericom AccessNow to access VMware View virtual desktops through a Chrome browser. AccessNow was easy to install, and the combined AccessNow and VMware View solution will allow students to access virtual desktops with no client software to install or manage. We will be using AccessNow in a pilot program in the Fall of 2011 to give students access to our resources, Microsoft applications and virtual desktops, from dorm rooms and access points both on and off campus. Access would be supported from laptops, netbooks, Chromebooks, iPads and other devices running HTML5 supported browsers."
