University of Pittsburgh Accepts Invitation to Play in BBVA Compass Bowl

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 5, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ESPN Regional Television, Inc. (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, today announced that the University of Pittsburgh will represent the BIG EAST Conference in the fifth annual BBVA Compass Bowl.

The BBVA Compass Bowl, an ERT owned and operated event, will be played Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Birmingham's historic Legion Field and will be televised by ESPN at 11 a.m. CT.

Pittsburgh (7-5, 5-2 BIG EAST) is lead by head coach Dave Wannstedt, in his sixth season, and finished in a three-way tie for the BIG EAST regular season championship this season. The Panthers will be playing in their 27th bowl game and will be making their third straight postseason appearance.

Pitt has claimed nine national championships through the years, sixth-highest in the college ranks.

The team representing the BIG EAST Conference has won all four previous bowl games held in Birmingham, including last year's 20-7 victory by Connecticut over South Carolina.

Tickets to the 2010 BBVA Compass Bowl will be available at 56 BBVA Compass branch locations throughout North and Central Alabama including those in Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery starting Monday, December 6th.
