University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and Texas Children's Hospital Team Up to Offer a Seminar on Upper Extremity Soft Tissue Mobilization for Occupational Therapy on June 25-26 in Houston

HOUSTON, June 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS), a leading graduate institution that emphasizes rehabilitative and health science education through innovative classroom and distance education, has teamed up with Texas Children's Hospital to offer a continuing professional education seminar, Upper Extremity Soft Tissue Mobilization for Occupational Therapy, in Houston, Texas, Saturday, June 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 26 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For more information and to register for this seminar visit cpe.usa.edu or call 800.241.1027. 

This two-day, face-to-face seminar provides 1.5 continuing education units (CEUs) for occupational and physical therapists. The course is comprised of lectures and labs focusing on soft tissue mobilization evaluation and treatment techniques to the upper extremity. General principles of posture, soft tissue anatomy, soft tissue biomechanics and treatment principles will be discussed. The seminar will relate the interdependency between soft tissues, joint mechanics and neuromuscular control. Various techniques and applications of trigger point release, manual edema mobilization and scar mobilization will be addressed in the seminar.

This course will be taught by USAHS alumna, Dr. Elizabeth McGee, PT, DPT, MOT, CHT, MTC. Dr. McGee is a certified Hand Therapist and also completed her Manual Therapy Certification in 2007.

About Dr. Elizabeth McGee, PT, DPT, MOT, CHT, MTC:

Dr. McGee graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science Education. She furthered her education at the University of St. Augustine completing her Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) in 2003 and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2005. During this period, Dr. McGee completed a Hand Therapy Fellowship (2004) at NAS Jacksonville Hospital, and after five years of clinical practice in the field, became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2010. She also completed her Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) in 2007. Dr. McGee is an instructor at the University of Saint Augustine in the Occupational Therapy department. She also works with the Upper Extremity Trauma team at Shand's Jacksonville Hospital.
