University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences Faculty to Present Best Practices in Nursing Education at American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Master's Education Conference

ATLANTA, Feb. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS), a leading graduate institution that emphasizes health science education through innovative classroom education, is proud to announce that faculty from the institution's Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program will present a podium presentation at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Master's Education Conference.

The conference provides a national forum for all healthcare and academic audiences currently implementing or interested in exploring MSN education and practice. The conference takes place in Atlanta, Georgia from February 23 – 25, 2017.

USAHS MSN program chair, Robin Dennison, DNP, APRN, CCNS, CNE, NEA-BC, and faculty member, John Rosselli, PhD, FNP-BC, CNE, will present insights and best practices for developing evaluation methods beyond exams in nursing education. Points of emphasis will include:

• Differentiating between scoring checklists, holistic scoring rubrics, and analytic scoring rubrics
• Identifying best practices for development of scoring rubrics
• Describing a method for developing an analytic scoring rubric for an assignment such as a class presentation, an essay, a scholarly paper, or clinical performance

The presentation is an abbreviated form of a book authored in 2015 by Dr. Dennison and Dr. Rosselli, PhD, FNP-BC, CNE, entitled "Evaluation Beyond Exams in Nursing Education: Designing Assignments and Evaluating With Rubrics."

USAHS launched its online Master of Science in Nursing program in response to the increasing demand for nursing professionals with advanced degrees in an evolving health care industry. The USAHS MSN program is designed for working nurses who wish to take the next steps in their education and advance their nursing career. This online program provides nurses with the flexibility to meet their busy schedules with 24/7 access to online courses, innovative learning resources and the ability to complete practicum requirements in their home community. In addition, the USAHS program provides students with access to a vast network of renowned university faculty and interprofessional alumni nationwide.

The Master of Science in Nursing provides students with flexible learning opportunities, including the option to take the program completely online or with optional on-campus courses and extracurricular experiences, such as real-life group projects, dynamic discussion groups and campus wellness events. Coursework will incorporate interprofessional education and unique faculty personalization, which aims to prepare students to be leaders in the current and ever-changing nursing environment. The 36-credit program can be completed within two years. 

The program offers students the choice of three nursing specializations: Nurse Educator, Nurse Executive and Nurse Informaticist.

USAHS is currently accepting applications and qualified students who enroll and are accepted for the May 2017 (summer) start date are eligible for a Master of Science in Nursing scholarship that equates to a 50 percent savings on tuition, throughout the program.
