Unsupersize Me, Award-Winning Documentary Now Released and Film's Maker Speaking at Famed Cinema

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Unsupersize Me is the successful independent film receiving awards and dual honors at The Accolade Film Festival, the Indie Film Festival and most recently at the International Film Festival for Environment, Health, and Culture. 

Unsupersize Me documents the inspiring story of Juan-Carlos Asse, owner of Zen Fitness, a personal training studio in Gainesville, Fla. and his quest to free people trapped in their unhealthy bodies because of their poor choices and detrimental decisions. Asse himself understands what it's like to suffer the consequences of bad decisions. In 2000, Asse plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute the drug Ecstasy and served a seven-year sentence in federal prison.

In Unsupersize Me, Asse embarks on a journey with Tracy Ryan, a woman who has been morbidly obese her entire life. Ryan, once entrapped by her unhealthy body, escapes her imprisonment and ultimately regains her life. Ryan metamorphoses from a 345-pound inactive woman burdened by her weight to a healthy, active woman climbing mountains and running half marathons, a woman living life to its fullest.

Viewers are drawn into the deeply personal nature of the film as Ryan reveals how her obesity restricted friendships, dating and her ability to truly enjoy life. Starting with a "pantry purge," Asse guides Ryan through Vegan grocery shopping, vegan cooking and even "Iron Chef" competitions. Ryan and Asse form a close bond during the film as they turn working out into a lifelong friendship, sharing each other's challenges, finally celebrating Ryan's weight-loss milestones with tattoos.
