Update: City Colleges of Chicago Teams with Accenture to Provide Students with the Skills They Need to Get a Job
CHICAGO, April 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in the state of Illinois and one of the largest in the nation has teamed with Accenture to offer a "Job Readiness Mentoring Program" designed to provide students with the skills they need to successfully enter the workforce.
"This program is an excellent experience for students," said Cheryl L. Hyman, Chancellor, City Colleges of Chicago. "Our students are exposed to top professionals in corporate settings and are learning about the high expectations the business world has set for them."
On March 24, 2011, nearly 30 CCC students participated in the first of a series of intensive half day sessions. Accenture "coaches" provided basic mentoring and encouragement in the areas of resume writing, mock interview practice and networking tips.
"The workshop was excellent. I now understand the skills I need in order to get a job," said Edgar Gonzalez, Harold Washington College student, and a member of the CCC Reinvention initiative's Faculty & Staff Development task force. "Ideally, every CCC student should experience a workshop like this."
The effort is part of Accenture's Skills to Succeed initiative, which plans to equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business. Future workshops include a day-long corporate business meeting at McCormick Place where students will also learn about how to manage their online presence and enhance their opportunities to get their next job.
"Community colleges are a critical element in continuing education and developing the skills needed in the evolving US workforce," said Mark Anderson, Chicago Local Market Director. "By teaming with City Colleges, Accenture looks forward to helping students develop the skills and opportunities they need to successfully begin or advance in their career."
