Uptown Art Fair Celebrating 49th Annual Event August 3-5
Minneapolis Resident Dewey James is 2012 Commemorative Artist
MINNEAPOLIS, July 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2012 Uptown Art Fair is celebrating its 49th annual fair with an exciting lineup of nationally recognized artists, special performances, youth artists, a culinary competition and much more. The event will take place August 3-5 at the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street in Uptown, Minneapolis.
"Uptown blends the sophisticated, the scenic and the stylish into a decidedly urban environment, a perfect potpourri of places to go and people to see, creating the ideal environment in which to showcase some of the most talented artists in the country," said Maude Lovelle, Executive Director of the Uptown Art Fair.
This year's Commemorative Artist is Minneapolis resident Dewey James, who specializes in mixed media creations. James' 2012 Uptown Art Fair Commemorative Print, "The Perfect Day," is her interpretation of Uptown through mixed media of photography and painting. The print was created specifically for this year's fair.
"I am honored to be the Commemorative Artist this year and not only represent what the Uptown Art Fair means to me through my art, but to have been chosen among so many talented artists from across the country is very powerful," James said. "You work for years and then these lovely doors open up. That's unexpected and it's really a thrill."
Much of the photography James uses in her mixed media pieces is "urban" scenes from around Minneapolis or from photos she took while based in the south of France, where she spent eight years restoring medieval structures.
In addition to James' work, fairgoers can browse through original art by more than 350 artists chosen by a five-member jury. The Uptown Art Fair features prints, drawing, glass, painting, jewelry, wood, ceramics, photography, mixed media and more.
Along with the artist booths, the Uptown Art Fair offers a variety of special events and activities. Some of this year's highlights include the Kitchen Window Culinary Arts Competition, the Family Imagination Station, Tomorrow's Stars Youth Art Fair and a performance stage featuring a variety of acts.
