U.S. Army Honored for Exceptional Systems Engineering Practices With 2009 Top 5 DOD Systems Engineering Award
Engineering Practices on the Base Expeditionary Targeting and Surveillance Systems-Combined (BETSS-C) Program Recognized by Office of the Director of Defense Research and Engineering
McLEAN, Va., Nov. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- At the recent 13th Annual National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Systems Engineering Conference Award Luncheon in San Diego, the Project Manager, Night Vision/Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (PM NV/RSTA) was awarded the 2009 Top 5 DoD Systems Engineering Award for the U.S. Army's Base Expeditionary Targeting and Surveillance System-Combined (BETSS-C) Program.
The award, presented annually to a DoD project office, recognizes programs using best practices in systems engineering. Booz Allen Hamilton has supported PM NV/RSTA for three years providing systems engineering support for the BETSS-C program. BETSS-C is a family of systems comprised of sensors that provide persistent surveillance, force protection, counter improvised explosive device, targeting and counter insurgent capabilities for both day and night coverage. BETSS-C meets several USCENTCOM operational needs through an integrated sensor approach based on a modular and scalable sensor architecture that can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of various operating locations. BETSS-C is the focus of an initiative to provide a fully integrated, networked solution to provide video capture and dissemination combined with linkage to Battle Command systems and the Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A). The program was recognized as a stand-out in systems engineering for: its comprehensive concept of operations (CONOPS); system requirements development and management; comprehensive risk management; use of peer reviews; and its focus on using reliability as an indicator of engineering excellence.
"We are proud to serve as a trusted partner to PM NV/RSTA and to have played an integral role in providing systems engineering support for the BETSS-C program," said Mr. Lee Wilbur, Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton. "As a USCENTCOM Top Ten Priority, BETSS-C is contributing to saving lives and enabling combat overmatch on the battlefield every day."
