TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23: FAMOUS MAGAZINES
Profile America — Tuesday, February 23rd. Three famous American magazines had key events in their histories in February. This week in 1925, the New Yorker published its first edition. The witty and urbane magazine has published work by many famous authors and cartoonists. Three years earlier, the Reader’s Digest appeared on newsstands for the first time. It now has millions of subscribers and publishes editions in many languages. And, this month in 1969, one of the nation’s most revered magazines the — Saturday Evening Post — printed its final weekly edition after entertaining and informing Americans for 148 years. Today, Americans spend an average of nearly $46 a year on magazines and 124 hours reading them. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, now conducting the 2010 Census beginning April 1st.
