Profile America — Thursday, November 18th. Today marks the birthday of a legendary basketball coach, Forrest Allen, far better known by his nickname "Phog." Besides being a championship player, he is known as the father of basketball coaching. In 1,010 games, his teams won 746 times. Most of his career was at the University of Kansas. Allen was the driving force behind the formation of the NCAA and in basketball becoming an official sport at the Olympics in 1936. He was one of the inaugural class inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Today, there are more than 1,000 college basketball teams and their games draw 44.5 million fans annually.
