U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings To Be The Keynote Speaker at BOLD Conference at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory In Columbia, Maryland
COLUMBIA, Md., Sept. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leadership At Its Best, announced today U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings will be the keynote speaker at the BOLD Conference at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory In Columbia, Maryland. The BOLD Leadership and Life Skills Conference is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Kossiakoff Center, 11100 Johns Hopkins Road, Laurel, MD. The conference for young African American men in grades 8 through 11 living in the Columbia, Maryland area.
The conference will provide a full day of activities, including workshops, and lunch featuring other special guests includes retired NFL player Keion Carpenter (Atlanta Falcons) and Attorney Craig Thompson, partner with Venable LLP, an international law firm. The workshop topics are designed to encourage young men to make BOLD decisions about their lives, and to take BOLD steps toward success
BOLD stands for "Black-male Orientation to Leadership Development". The purpose of this conference is to encourage African American young men to strive to be positive and successful. Leadership At Its Best, LLC is determined to proactively change the constant reminder of the problems which plague urban America, and how these problems affect black and brown communities. This effort fully supports President Barack Obama's "My Brother's Keeper" initiative, which is aimed at addressing the problems which keep urban communities struggling with the overwhelming cycle of violence and crime. BOLD seeks to provide young men with positive alternatives, by providing the tools they need to be winners, now and in the future!

"The BOLD Conference is targeting 100 black boys, with a focus on those who struggle to maintain a "C" grade point average. "Many of these boys consistently live beneath their potential, because they lack vision of just how good their lives could be. BOLD aims to change that mindset by instilling hope in them and igniting their passion to succeed," said Larry Walker.
