WASHINGTON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced the final combined antidumping and countervailing duty rate of 24.75 percent in the seventh annual review of unfairly traded Canadian softwood lumber imports into the United States. The review covers lumber imported in calendar year 2024.
"The Commerce Department has reaffirmed that Canada continues to trade unfairly in softwood lumber. After absolutely egregious behavior in 2023, Canadian sawmills spent 2024 continuing to dump their subsidized lumber into the US at elevated rates," stated Zoltan van Heyningen, Executive Director of the U.S. Lumber Coalition.
"The U.S. Lumber Coalition applauds the Commerce Department's continued commitment to enforcing the U.S. trade laws against subsidized and unfairly traded Canadian lumber imports," added van Heyningen. "Continued strong enforcement of our trade laws is exactly what's needed to keep expanding domestic lumber production to build U.S. homes."
"Our industry has shown that it will respond to strong trade policies by investing and creating thousands of jobs, even as lumber demand and housing starts have remained low," stated Steve Swanson, CEO and Executive Chairman of Swanson Group and Chair of the U.S. Lumber Coalition.
"Homegrown product supplies the overwhelming majority of lumber consumed in the United States. Canada's market share has been pushed down to levels not seen since the 1970s. Let's keep driving forward. Continued strong trade policies are what will allow the U.S. industry to continue to regain market share to fully supply our own market, and use U.S. raw materials to produce U.S. lumber to build U.S. homes while supporting over 1.3 million U.S. forestry jobs," concluded Swanson.

The U.S. Lumber Coalition is an alliance of large and small softwood lumber producers from around the country, joined by their employees and woodland owners, working to address Canada's unfair lumber trade practices. Our goal is to serve as the voice of the American lumber community and effectively address Canada's unfair softwood lumber trade practices. The Coalition supports the full enforcement of the U.S. trade laws to allow the U.S. industry to invest and grow to its natural size without being impaired by unfairly traded imports.
