U.S. Senate Candidate Weighs in on the Debt Ceiling Crisis

ITHACA, N.Y., July 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Scott Noren, from Ithaca, New York is a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate challenging Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for the 6 year term in 2012. He has started his campaign amidst what he considers an extremely broken Congress, Democratic Party and extreme fringe Republican section of that party.

Dr. Noren feels that there are some immediate measures that would be in overwhelming favor with the American public despite the mayhem in Washington. His suggestions for solving problems fiscally would include: 1) Immediate and long-lasting cut in the military budget of $100 billion per year 2) Amending the Bush Tax cuts for $500,000 and under only to increase tax revenue 3) No changes to Medicare, Social Security, WIC or other safety net and social programs 4) Regarding those social programs, increasing the policing of those programs to weed out fraud and abuse by recipients. He feels this makes it worse for the people that truly need the assistance and support. These initiatives would provide a base for better fiscal policy and other initiatives could be added safely after thorough forethought instead of knee-jerk, last minute solutions.

In general, Dr. Noren is very aligned with the political will of Senator Bernie Sanders and is dismayed by members of the Democratic Party like Senators Schumer and Gillibrand who voted for the Bush Tax cuts, made the deficit worse, yet proclaim to be 'Progressive.' Dr. Noren's main definition of fiscally conservative is scaling back the waste and budget of the U.S. military and not voting to fund wars like in Iraq and Afghanistan as Senator Gillibrand has done.

Dr. Noren is for a Federal ban on hydro-fracking and considers the exemption for Syracuse and New York City to be a slap in the face to all New Yorkers, especially those in the Finger Lakes who oppose this due to drinking water safety, tourism and other concerns.

Dr. Noren, an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon is from Ithaca, NY, has been a health care provider for nearly two decades and served the U.S. Army for six years until 2003. He grew up in the Chicago area, and through military and educational training has lived in very diverse communities. He has a wife and four children, three of which reside at home including one of his children with special needs.

Dr. Noren is focusing especially on the economy, health care issues, and how to steer the economy in the right direction. Dr. Noren is also very focused on reforming the Democratic Party away from Wall Street Democracy and passing legislation barring corporations being allowed to be treated like 'people.'
