U.S. Senator Joins Hilliard Request for GM Emergency Action

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This morning, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal joined Texas attorney Robert Hilliard in urging Attorney General Eric Holder to hold General Motors responsible for the deaths and injuries caused by the carmaker's faulty ignition switch in over 1.6 million GM vehicles.  

Senator Blumenthal's letter to Mr. Holder accompanies Hilliard's Emergency Motion filed in federal today.  The injunction demands that GM issue a "Park It NOW" Alert.

"Park It NOW" EMERGENCY MOTION
Robert Hilliard, a partner at Texas law firm Hilliard Munoz Gonzales LLP, brought the Emergency Motion before the U.S. District Court in Corpus Christi, Texas.  The Motion notes:

• GM acknowledges that their vehicles are defective, but has done nothing to insist that owners STOP DRIVING THE RECALLED VEHICLES
• the Court should issue a Mandatory Injunction ordering GM to issue a "Park It NOW" Alert informing owners of imminent dangers of continuing to drive the vehicles
• the Injunction is in the public interest as there is an urgent need to prevent injury and death

SENATOR BLUMENTHAL'S LETTER TO ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDER
A letter filed this morning is Connecticut Senator Blumenthal's letter to Attorney General Holder, which:

• requests immediate DOJ intervention on behalf of victims of accidents caused by GM's faulty ignition switch
• GM to establish a fund to fully compensate victims of injury, death or damage resulting from the faulty ignition switch
• oppose action by GM to deny responsibility on grounds that consumer damages may have resulted from deceptive concealment by GM
• through the Department of Justice or appropriate federal agency, demand that GM immediately issue a Park It NOW Alert

HILLIARD'S STATEMENT
