Physicians from Coast-to-Coast Collaborate to Provide Compassionate and Affordable Healthcare for Women

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Oct. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A revolution is coming in how healthcare is delivered in the United States.  A unique collaboration of many of the largest and most prominent women's healthcare groups across the country have joined together to form the U.S. Women's Health Alliance to improve women's healthcare.  This partnership brings together 17 practices with nearly one thousand physicians caring for millions of women across the country. The purpose of the Alliance is to provide women with high-quality, affordable healthcare throughout their lives. Collaborating as a single group, the physicians believe they can achieve greater results and better outcomes for their patients than is possible as individual providers.  The group will also serve as a resource for providers of women's healthcare to promote best practices, member consultation, and participate in healthcare policy and reform.

Collaborating For Better Patient Outcomes

The U.S. Women's Health Alliance has established a variety of goals for its first year and already has many projects underway, including working with insurance companies and hospital systems to promote quality, affordable care. 

The Alliance is also collaborating with private industry around a common mission of improving care. One example is a nationwide patient education initiative with Cord Blood Registry, a leading umbilical cord stem cell and tissue bank, to insure all expectant parents understand their options regarding umbilical stem cell collection.

The Alliance has also created a quality assurance committee to collect and analyze data from participating practices. This information will assist the Alliance groups in developing best practice models for improved care. The Alliance will work to improve the flow of information between hospitals and offices through a variety of existing medical technologies.

Annual Meeting Attracts Leaders from Government and Industry

To support the Alliance's mission to improve women's healthcare and provide advice on how to effectively work with the government to advance the Alliance's agenda, former Secretary of Health Tommy Thompson attended and presented at the Alliance's national meeting on October 17, 2013.

Executives from Cigna and Aetna also presented at the meeting and are working with the Alliance to develop new models of healthcare delivery to improve quality and affordability. The Alliance is also in discussions with other insurance carriers.
