LINCOLN, Neb., Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Inventory levels of used construction equipment on Machinery Trader and other Sandhills Global platforms shifted from a sideways to a downward trend in July, according to the latest Sandhills market reports. This shift reflects a typical summertime lull in the machinery market. Used crawler excavators and mini excavators led the way in inventory decreases in the heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment markets, respectively.

Auction values were down 0.76% M/M, up 2.02% YOY, and are trending sideways. The used track skid steer category showed the largest M/M auction value decline at 1.83%, while the used mini excavator category posted the largest YOY increase at 4.95%.

Used telescopic boom lifts led other categories in M/M asking value decreases at 2.02%, while rough terrain scissor lifts led in YOY decreases at 8.69%.
Auction values decreased by 0.63% M/M and 2.94% YOY and are trending downward. Sandhills observed the largest category decreases in used telescopic boom lifts, down 3.31% M/M, and used slab scissor lifts, down 8.29% from year-ago levels.

U.S. Forklifts

Used forklift inventory levels have been trending up for six months in a row. Inventory levels rose 6.29% M/M and 34.99% YOY in July, led by the used cushion tire forklift category with increases of 8.56% M/M and 37.37% YOY.
Asking values decreased by 1.36% M/M and 3.29% YOY in July and are trending sideways. Used cushion tire forklift asking prices decreased more than other categories M/M, down 2.81%, while used pneumatic-tire forklifts led in YOY decreases with a 6.21% change.
Auction values decreased by 1.22% M/M and 6.64% YOY, continuing a six-month-long downward trend. The categories with the largest changes in July were used cushion tire forklifts, down 2.4% M/M, and used pneumatic-tire forklifts, down 7.61% YOY.

U.S. Telehandlers

Inventory levels of U.S. used telehandlers inched lower M/M in July, by 0.21%, but increased 18.14% YOY, continuing an upward trend that has lasted for over two years.
Asking values were up 3.13% M/M but down 4.73% YOY and are trending sideways.
Auction values in this market dipped 0.32% M/M and 5.19% YOY and are trending down.

U.S. Used Tractors 100 Horsepower and Greater

Inventory levels in this market fell 1.42% M/M and 4.17% YOY in July, continuing a downward trend. The used 100- to 174-HP tractor category had the largest inventory level decreases, down 4.13% M/M and 13.07% YOY.
Asking values in this market continued a six-month-long downward trend, dropping 1.37% M/M and 6.28% YOY in July. Used 100- to 174-HP tractors led other categories in M/M asking price decreases with a 2.36% drop, while the used 300-plus-HP tractor category led in YOY decreases, falling 6.03%.
Auction values continued to trend downward, with decreases of 1.35% M/M and 2.83% YOY in July. The used 175- to 299-HP tractor category exhibited the largest auction value decreases, down 2% M/M and 4.55% YOY.
The EVI spread, which measures the percentage difference between asking and auction values, maintained the same value as the previous month, 39%, which is close to the peak values observed in 2015.

U.S. Used Combines

Used combine harvester inventory levels dropped 2.29% M/M and 7.21% YOY in July and are trending down.
Asking prices in this market rose 0.93% M/M and 1.98% YOY in July. Both asking and auction values are trending up but depreciating YOY for individual assets. Roughly half of the used combines on Sandhills platforms were zero to five years old in July, and approximately 60% comprised Class 8 or greater models. These data points, combined with rising MSRP values for recently added John Deere and Case IH combines, have caused asking and auction values to appear inflated compared to previous years. For example, a 2022 John Deere S780 posted YOY asking and auction value decreases of 13.9% and 11.7%, respectively.
Auction values were up 1.53% M/M and 9.64% YOY, continuing a seven-month-long upward trend.
The EVI spread decreased one point from June to 43%, which is lower than the peak values observed in 2015.

U.S. Used Sprayers

Inventory levels of used sprayers have been trending downward for five consecutive months. In July, inventory decreased by 1.59% M/M and 7.97% YOY.
Asking values decreased by 0.97% M/M and 4.98% YOY and continued a downward trend.
Auction values decreased by 0.95% M/M but ticked up by 0.07% YOY and are trending downward.
The EVI spread for this market remained at 43%, only slightly lower than the peak values of 2015.

Auction values are also trending up, with increases of 5.99% M/M and 1.31% YOY in July. The used sleeper truck category posted the largest auction value changes, up 6.56% M/M and 7.45% YOY.

U.S. used semi-trailer inventory levels increased by 2.96% M/M and decreased by 13.51% YOY in July, maintaining a five-month-long sideways trend. The used reefer trailer category showed the largest M/M inventory increase at 8.77%, while used dry van trailers had the largest YOY inventory decrease at 24.4%.
Asking values decreased by 2.62% M/M and 2% YOY in July but continued an upward trend. The largest asking value decreases occurred in the used reefer trailer category, down 6.19% M/M, and the used drop deck trailer category, down 4.15% YOY.
Auction values decreased by 3.71% M/M and 2.1% YOY in July and are trending sideways. Compared to other categories, used reefer trailers posted the largest auction value decreases, down 12.59% M/M and 8.82% YOY.

U.S. Used Medium-Duty Trucks

Inventory levels in this market dropped 6.17% M/M in July but rose 9.37% YOY and are trending sideways. The used moving box truck category posted the largest M/M inventory decrease at 11.59%, while used reefer box truck inventory levels increased more than all other categories, up 80.59%.
Asking values increased by 2.56% M/M but were down 4.44% YOY and continued an 11-month-long downward trend in July. Used cab and chassis trucks led other categories in M/M asking value increases at 12.76%. Used reefer box trucks led other categories in YOY asking value decreases at 8.55%.
Auction values have also been trending down for 11 months in a row. Auction values in this market were up 4.51% M/M, led by used cab and chassis trucks with a 17.12% increase. Auction values were down 7.16% YOY, with used reefer box trucks taking the lead with a 15.26% drop.
