The White House convened the forum to discuss how to build upon the increasing trend of companies choosing to "insource" jobs and make new investments in the United States rather than send jobs and spend money overseas.
"As the economy struggles in its recovery from its worst crisis in more than a generation, no issue outweighs the need to create quality, family-supporting jobs in the U.S.," Gerard said. "The USW is proud to work with the President, his administration, business leaders and others toward that goal."
Roundtable and panel discussions with President Obama, Vice President Biden and others focused on ways to make it more competitive for companies to operate in the United States and what more can be done to encourage employers to create American jobs.
The USW represents about 850,000 working men and women in the United States and Canada in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glass making to mining, paper, steel, tire and rubber and other manufacturing environments to the public sector, service and health care industries.
