Vandor to Voluntarily Recall DC Comic Superheroes and the Wizard of Oz Drinking Glasses

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Vandor, LLC, an industry leader in the design and marketing of licensed consumer goods with nostalgic themes, announced today the voluntary recall of themed drinking glasses featuring DC Comics superheroes and The Wizard of Oz.

Test results previously commissioned by Vandor and conducted by an independent facility accredited by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) indicated that the themed glassware falls within the legal limits for lead and cadmium content established by the CPSC.  A separate test commissioned by the Associated Press found that the designs of the glasses contained higher levels of lead and cadmium.  

Vandor CEO Tom Russo stated that, "the company will exercise an abundance of caution and voluntarily recall the products from all retail outlets that carry them."  According to Russo, Vandor will work with the CPSC to develop a recall plan.  Russo also noted that, "Vandor has had an impeccable consumer safety record throughout 50 years in business."  

Vandor began distributing The Wizard of Oz (Item #71079) and DC Comic superheroes (Item #74379) glasses in January 2010.  To date, less than 10,000 sets of each item have been shipped into the marketplace.  The products are marketed to adult collectors and are sold largely at independent gift and specialty retail outlets and through specialty catalogues.  

Vandor has reached out to the Consumer Product Safety Commission to begin discussions about the recall. Specific recall information will be posted on the company's website (www.vandorproducts.com) as it becomes available.
