Verizon Wireless Celebrates 15th Anniversary
The nation's largest wireless company remains committed to serving Texas customers
DALLAS, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2015, Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless company in the United States, is celebrating its 15-year anniversary. With 108 million customers, over 76,000 employees and more than 1,700 retail locations across the nation, Verizon Wireless' investment in people and commitment to technology continues to drive positive change in Texas communities.
Technology Innovators
The story of Verizon Wireless began in April 2000. In the 15 years since, mobile technology has advanced at a spectacular pace. Verizon Wireless has marked many milestones over the years including launching the nation's first 3G wireless broadband network and building and operating the nation's first 4G LTE network.
Verizon Wireless' Central Texas region is home to some of the nation's largest cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio. In 2014, the region spent more than $329 million on network investments and activated the XLTE technology in 16 markets to keep customers connected.
Years ago, making mobile voice calls and sending a text-only black and white message that took multiple button clicks for a single letter was considered advanced technology. Today, we live in a highly connected world with sophisticated machine-to-machine connections and devices all running on the 4G LTE network.
"The strength and reliability of our 4G LTE network has helped bring to life all the possibilities we could only dream of in the past," said Michelle Miller, president for Central Texas region, Verizon Wireless. "I'm excited to see where this technology evolution will lead us, empowered by our innovation and imagination. We're even more committed to serving our customers with the best wireless solutions and experience."
Our Commitment to Texas Communities
Verizon is committed to helping the nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than three million children in the United States affected by domestic violence. For 15 years, Verizon has been supporting domestic violence victims through its HopeLine from Verizon program, which collects no-longer-used phones and accessories, from any carrier. Proceeds provide wireless phones with free airtime to survivors of domestic abuse, and contribute grants to support the efforts of non-profit domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across Texas such as Genesis Women's Shelter's Conference on Crime against Women and Dallas Police Department's Blue in the School Program.
Wireless phones and technology serve as a vital link for all of us. They're also an especially safe and reliable way for domestic violence victims and survivors to reach emergency or support services in times of crisis and stay connected with employers, family and friends.
Additionally, the Verizon Foundation has provided long-standing support for educational initiatives including the annual Verizon Innovation App Challenge, University of North Texas's Code Camp and Dallas Regional Chamber's Pick Your Path Initiative, to name a few efforts.
As Verizon Wireless celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Central Texas region looks forward to serving customers for many years to come.
