Vernier Offers Free 2010 Fall Workshops to Help Teachers Gain Fresh Ideas for Teaching Science
Hands-on workshops show educators how to integrate data collection into their curriculum using Vernier's 'LabQuest' handhelds
BEAVERTON, Ore., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Science teachers in 19 cities can attend one of Vernier Software & Technology's free Fall workshops to hone their teaching and technology skills. These 4-hour hands-on workshops provide skills for integrating data collection and analysis as a part of teaching core science topics.
During each free session, Vernier trainers and attendees will explore the many ways that data-collection technology can be used to enhance learning in any chemistry, biology, physics, middle school science, physical science or Earth science classroom. Participants will learn how to collect data using the LabQuest, the most powerful and intuitive interface ever designed by Vernier. This versatile data-collection interface can be used both in the lab and out in the field, thus enhancing the learning experience with real-world applications of science. The newest addition to the LabQuest family, the LabQuest Mini, will also be used. The LabQuest Mini, which is used with a computer or netbook, allows educators to have access to high-quality data-collection tools at a lower cost.
"Using data-collection technology gives students hands-on experience with science. It is a terrific motivator," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and a former physics teacher. "Our free workshops help educators feel comfortable implementing hands-on experiments in their labs."
