VETERAN DETROIT JOURNALIST CHRISTY MCDONALD JOINS WDIV-LOCAL 4

McDonald to start as special correspondent across all platforms

DETROIT, Oct. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Veteran Detroit television anchor Christy McDonald will join WDIV-Local 4 as a special correspondent and fill-in anchor on Local 4 News and streaming platform Local 4+ it was announced today by WDIV Vice President and General Manager Bob Ellis. McDonald will start these new roles beginning October 10^th.

McDonald spent the past 11 years as anchor and managing editor of WTVS Detroit Public Television's news programming, One Detroit.  Previously, she was an anchor and reporter for 10 years at WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).

McDonald grew up in Southeast Michigan and has received multiple awards from the Associated Press, Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Society of Professional Journalists for moderating, anchoring/reporting and breaking news coverage. She is the recipient of the Emmy award for Best News Anchor in Michigan.

McDonald specializes in contextual storytelling, community engagement and political reporting. She contributed to the PBS NewsHour reporting on Michigan politics, Great Lakes issues and Detroit's financial crisis. She is a sought-after moderator and interviewer, leading lively discussions at the Detroit Economic Club, Detroit Policy Conference, Mackinac Policy Conference and International Women's Day events, among others.  McDonald co-moderated gubernatorial debates in 2014 and 2018.

McDonald is a graduate of Michigan State University's James Madison College with a degree in political philosophy.
