Arrival en-masse Sunday, August 17 in Pikeville, Ky after lunch stop in Lexington enroute to Charlotte, N.C.
INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by The American Legion:
WHO: Daniel M. Dellinger, National Commander of The American Legion and hundreds of wartime veterans on motorcycles, The American Legion Riders
WHAT: The American Legion Legacy Run is a 1,350-mile fund raising motorcycle run from Indianapolis to Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 17-21, 2014. The ride ends in Charlotte, just in time for the 96th National Convention of the Indianapolis-based American Legion. More than 350 motorcycle riders are expected to make the entire five-day journey.
The American Legion Riders are traveling through eight states, stopping only for promotional events, luncheons, nightly events and fund raising, to include a special appearance at The American Legion Baseball World Series championship game on Aug. 19 in Shelby, N.C. The Legacy Run is one of the largest multistate, multiday cross-country motorcycle events in the United States.
WHY: The goal this run is to raise $450,000 for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund for children of military personnel who died on and after Sept. 11, 2001. Legion Riders from across the country are collecting funds to present to Commander Dellinger at national convention. All Americans across the country can contribute to show our nation's appreciation for those who paid the ultimate price for freedom. Since the fund's inception in 2006, The American Legion has raised over 4.3 million dollars with every dollar donated being placed directly into The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.
Information on the Legacy Scholarship fund is at: www.legion.org/scholarships/legacy.
