VIDEO from Cotton Incorporated and Synaptic Digital: Stay Cool and Comfortable at the Gym with Cotton
NEW YORK, Aug. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- What's popular at the gym these days isn't the latest iPod or the most high-tech running shoes; it's cotton athletic apparel.
"More than 7 out of 10 consumers prefer their athletic apparel to be made of cotton," says Jenna Caccavo, Product Trend Analyst, Cotton Incorporated, citing data from the Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle Monitor™ Survey. "And athletic apparel appeals to a wide range of people, since two-thirds of consumers say they exercise at least once a week."

Caccavo says cotton is ideal for athletic apparel because it's a natural fiber, environmentally-friendly, and comfortable. And for the workout warrior, moisture management technologies are an added benefit.
"New moisture management technologies are great at wicking moisture away, keeping the wearer dry while not sacrificing any of cotton's soft hand and easy care," adds Caccavo.
But cotton works well even in pre- and post-workout activities; cotton robes and towels are comfortable and absorbent, and nonwoven products like cotton swabs and cotton rounds are appropriate for even the most sensitive skin.
Cotton is the perfect fit for before and after the gym, which explains why 80% of consumers say they wear their athletic apparel for activities other than exercise, according to Monitor data.
"At the end of the day, people just want to be comfortable," Caccavo says.
