Video Premiers at the Olympics - Mussel Industry Council Launches New Lifestyle Video at Atlantic Canada House

CHARLOTTETOWN, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ - The Mussel Industry Council is launching two new lifestyle videos at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In addition to providing fresh blue cultured mussels three-times daily at Atlantic Canada House on Granville Island, the Mussel Industry Council will be screening its new lifestyle videos.

"As part of our campaign to educate the consumer about fresh blue cultured mussels, we have developed a variety of videos," says Linda Duncan, Executive Director, Mussel Industry Council. "Our discovermussels.com website already has some great how-to videos available. At Atlantic Canada House, we plan to introduce two new lifestyle videos, which promote mussels as the perfect food for entertaining and for family dinners."

Throughout the two-week period of Atlantic Canada House operations, fresh blue cultured mussels will be prepared by Atlantic Canadian chefs and student chefs and offered to visitors for tasting. During this time, videos on how to buy, store and prepare mussels will be shown on big screens throughout the venue. The videos will also demonstrate how mussels can be a key ingredient for gatherings and family dinners, featuring parents and children enjoying some quality-time over bowls of mussel pasta.

"Research shows that the biggest barrier to consumers when it comes to buying mussels is their knowledge of how to purchase, store and prepare them," says Duncan. "Fresh blue cultured mussels are healthy, tasty and an easy food to prepare. At Atlantic Canada House, visitors will be able to see and taste this first-hand."

Fresh blue cultured mussels are a great fit with the fun, health and fitness featured at during the Olympic Games. They are a healthy food alternative that is high in Omega 3s, low in fat (2.2 g fat per 100 g mussel meat) and have high levels of daily requirements for zinc, vitamin C and Iron. Mussels have also achieved international recognition as sustainable seafood. Recently, Monterey Bay Aquarium has identified cultured Farm Mussels as a "Super Green," meaning that it is good for human health and does not harm the oceans. The Super Green list highlights products that are currently on the Seafood Watch "Best Choices" (green) list. They feed naturally with no additives and their seed is also collected naturally from the environment where they are grown.
