Senior cooperative housing communities originally began in Minnesota in the 1970s and have had a successful track record with over 120 communities, primarily in the Midwest. So, when I learned about the Village Cooperative, I thought it was my answer and I believe it is. In my opinion, they have combined the best aspects of home ownership with financial benefits in a winning combination for people like me," said Dee Bisel, current Village Cooperative of Lawrence member.

The multi-story Village Cooperative building will feature beautifully decorated community areas including a community room with kitchen, guest suite for friends and families, club room, reading areas, raised outdoor gardening beds, workshop, fitness center, internal storage area and underground heated parking with a car wash bay. Members like what they see and they look forward to being a part of this cooperative community. "Being a single person can be lonely at times. I look forward to having the option of being around friends by just going to any of the community areas or relaxing in my home. I'm a big sports fan, so I look forward to watching sporting events in the club room and cheering our favorite teams to victory. I also look forward to the fitness center. It has been fun planning the décor of my new home and watching the building being built," said Bisel. "The best thing, however, is the people. We have all gotten to know one another and it is a fun and interesting group that I think will take care of each other for years to come. My adult children are very happy about my decision as they like me being around like-minded people along with the safety and security of the building."

"Having met the other members and started the planning process for our new home, we feel certain that our new life will be a very comfortable and enjoyable experience," explained the Florys. "Since we plan to travel more during our retirement, we also like the fact that our home and belongings will be safe and secure while we are away for extended periods of time."

That's because the cooperative will employ a Member Services Manager and offer courtesy services such as "while-you're-away" services. As a cooperative, the members control all aspects of ownership.
